It is served on many occasions like weddings, events, and most of the festivals. Tirunelveli, a city in Tamil Nadu is famous for its iruttu kadai halwa. People used to stand in a long queue in the evenings, just to buy the halwa once the shop opens. The halwa is served hot in a small plantain leaf. It is believed that the hotness of the sweet along with the plantain leaf makes it much better. Once, when the Zamin of Tirunelveli region went to Rajasthan and he tasted this sweet, he liked it very much. Hence, he brought the chef along with him back to Tirunelveli, and thus it began popularity among the people of Tamil Nadu. From there, many versions of this halwa have started.
